About the Ben’s Bells Project The Ben’s Bells Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community art project focusing on the creation of Ben’s Bells – beautiful ceramic hanging works of art inspired by the spirit of Ben Mare Packard. Through the creation and distribution of Ben’s Bells, diverse individuals are unified in a powerful network of mutual support and the coming together of entire communities. Each Bell is created by the hands of many, so that by the time one Bell is completed, a multitude of individuals have been involved in the process. Bell-making activities include sculpting and painting clay beads, coins and centerpieces – no artistic ability necessary! These clay components are kiln-fired and then the Bells are assembled. Ben’s Bells are not for sale. Every year, thousands of Bells are hung randomly in public places across the country. Each bell contains a note encouraging the finder to take the bell home as a reminder to be kind. The bells are prepared and distributed by a multitude of individuals who will likely never know the person who finds the bell. Yet the connection of anonymous and random kindness brings power to the act of making, hanging and finding a bell. How You Can Help Ben’s Bells Newtown * Attend a workshop or open studio. Learn how to make bells and pass the kindness to others. * Make beads. Each bell requires three colorful handmade beads. Beads are made from clay and come in all shapes. * Painting Beads, Kindness Coins and Centerpieces. There are eight bright colors specified for Ben’s Bells. Centerpieces are a single color. Beads and Coins can be creatively decorated with multiple colors. Three coats of glaze are required for each piece. * Participate in Ben’s Bells free kindness education programs for schools workplaces and organizations * Ben’s Bells Newtown relies solely on donations, which fund the materials needed to create Ben’s Bells and our kindness programs for schools.
